The Mission of the STEM Education Caucus
The mission of the STEM ED Caucus is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) education in general. This includes issues in all areas
of STEM education such as K-12, higher and graduate education, and workforce
and industry-related issues.
-
The Caucus serves as a core group for vetting new legislative proposals and
circulating letters on budgets, existing legislation, and proposed agency
programs that concern STEM education.
-
The Caucus educates members and staff by providing information on STEM
education issues directly and by sponsoring briefings on STEM concerns. These
briefings frame important STEM education issues such as H1-B visas, Math and
Science Partnerships, student achievement and enrollment in STEM education
areas, participation of women and minorities, new research on how to teach/how
children learn, teacher training, and many others.
-
Caucus members also serve as Congressional experts on STEM education issues and
initiatives and work to educate their colleagues on important STEM education
issues.
-
Caucus members are encouraged to speak on STEM education issues to groups
outside of Congress including chambers of commerce and business groups, school
boards and PTAs, and professional scientific meetings.
